Floating On Air

The glow of the dawn on the line
The vast space fading to blue
The fair course hardly defined
The safety of shore out of view

I search to the left and the right
The sweet water kissing my skin
The powerful gust my delight

this venture that's pulling me in
And the fear behind

Faster than all my cares
Better than anywhere
One with the wide world now
Floating on air

Calling me out to explore
This wild expanse of sea
Braver than ever before
The life I had planned for me

And it's all I need

Faster than all my cares
Better than anywhere
One with the wide world now
Floating on air

Danger will surely come
Bringing the wind and the rain
But my journey has only begun
And this vessel is my domain

And where I'll remain

Faster than all my cares
Better than anywhere
One with the wide world now
Floating on air
I tend to close my eyes when I sing so if I look hyper focused on something it’s because I am staring at the wall trying to keep my eyes open. Also, my random smiling is me trying desperately not to go flat.

I have slowly been working on a novel (I am about 100 pages in.) One plot component involves poetry and song-writing (write what you know, as the saying goes.)

After my long writing hiatus, Floating On Air was the first new song I wrote. I have always loved boat imagery. Some of my favorite songs feature sailboats (Ben Rector’s Sailboat, Brooke Fraser’s Sailboats, even Lin-Manuel Miranda’s How Far I’ll Go featured in Moana inspired this song)

I hope you enjoy, and be sure to check out those other artists!
